Taking to Twitter, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has shared the latest transfer news out of Bayern Munich involving their forward Serge Gnabry and Liverpool.

The Lowdown: Gnabry deal winding down...

The former West Bromwich Albion ace's current contract at Bayern is set to expire in 2023 as things stand, giving the Bundesliga giants just 18 months and two transfer windows to make a profit off his sale or tie him down to an extension.

Gnabry, who has shone since leaving British shores, has also amassed 20 goals in just 31 caps for the German national team - impressive numbers for a player still only 26-years-old.

The winger, it is believed, could be close to signing a new deal with his current club but that hasn't stopped major interest from both Europe and the Premier League.

The Latest: Plettenberg makes Gnabry claim...

According to Sky journalist Plettenberg, Liverpool are one of a number of clubs ready to pounce if Gnabry doesn't put pen to paper on fresh terms.

They are joined by fellow European heavyweights Man United, Barcelona and Real Madrid, who have all 'deposited their interest', even though they expect Gnabry to ultimately extend.

However, if not, Liverpool and other sides will be lurking in the background.

The Verdict: Intriguing...

While an actual transfer to Anfield depends on whether Gnabry reaches a fresh contract agreement with Bayern, if there is a twist, Arsenal's former academy product would come as a stellar capture.

Scoring 81 senior career goals so far, it's fair to say his £63 million market valuation is entirely justified, but failure to agree a new deal could feasibly pressure Bayern into selling for less.

Much will depend on developments over the next few months but Liverpool should certainly take advantage if given a chance to sign Gnabry.

Called 'phenomenal' by former Anfield favourite Dietmar Hamann, writing in a column, it's safe to say the player lives up to that tag going by his numbers at both club and international level.
