James Pearce has provided an update on Nathaniel Clyne’s future and has revealed that the right-back will be departing the club in the summer.
In a recent Q&A for The Athletic, Pearce was asked about Clyne’s successors and if he will be leaving at the end of the season, to which the journalist confirmed that the Englishman will be moved on for free in the summer.
Clyne is amongst several other players who will likely be shown the door at the end of the campaign, with fellow England international Adam Lallana being another set to leave for free. The pair have been with the club since Brendan Rodgers’ reign, with both signing from Southampton.
Lallana, now 31, has struggled with several injuries over his time with the Reds and as such, hasn’t been able to make much impact in Jurgen Klopp’s ever-improving squad. He has scored once this season, playing just 373 minutes in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt). He has also recently been linked to a move to Leicester City, with Rodgers keen to link up with his former player again (via Sky Sports).
However, little speculation has surrounded Clyne’s Anfield departure, with no stand out clubs pushing to sign him. He spent one year out on loan at Bournemouth after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rise to power usurped Clyne’s role in the first team.

Despite Lallana having the more serious injury history, Klopp has continued to try to integrate him into the current team, whereas Clyne seems to have been left on the shelf and forgotten. Now his contract ticks down and he could see himself without a club if no other team wants to blow off the dust and reignite his career.
