Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are expecting another busy summer in the transfer market at Anfield and reports that the club have held talks over signing teenage French defender Lucas Digne has got tongues wagging around the bar with Liverpool punters wondering if he’s really the player they need.
The news comes from Mirror Football who today suggest that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has identified the 19-year-old youngster as a primary target during the summer transfer window. The highly rated defender could move to Anfield to further strengthen the defence and offer fierce competition for places to first choice left-back Jose Enrique.
The French Under-19 international has been linked with a whole host of European teams including Manchester United and City but as he’s under contract he will still cost around £8 million given his current deal runs until 2016.
Lille know they might have to cash in on Digne, with the Reds keen to get a deal through before other teams make their move.
The possible transfer suits Rodgers philosophy of signing young, technical players who are available on a budget and won’t demand massive wages.
