Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are full of hope after the Daily Star linked them with an ambitious move for Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen who only joined the Catalan giants last summer.
He has previously been a target for Arsenal and Manchester United but both Premier League sides lost out to Barca after he joined them for £9.7 million from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 22-year-old shot stopper has played second fiddle to Claudio Bravo all season long and has had to put with only playing in cup games which has sparked speculation that he will be leaving the Camp Nou this month.
And reports from Spain suggest Liverpool are favourites to snap him up with Brendan Rodgers searching desperately for someone to replace his dodgy number one Simon Mignolet.
ter Stegen has today spoke out about his unrest at Barcelona and admits that he is beginning to get frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities.
“It’s good to be at Barca but the situation is difficult. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care and it isn’t easy being a spectator,” said the German international.
“I want to be the No. 1 and I’m convinced that’s something that will happen if I continue to improve and work hard.
“I can only try to prove that I am the best [of the two goalkeepers] and that’s why I came here, so it’s something I will fight for.”
