Liverpool prepare £3m bid for young English starlet

Anfield

Liverpool supporters are cock-a-hoop after yesterday’s demolition job on previous Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Boss Brendan Rodgers described the performance as ‘out of this world’ and we can’t help but agree here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Reds took apart the Gunners.

Their good mood has been further improved by the latest transfer reports about a possible move for one of the best players in the Chmapionship.

The Mirror journalist Alan Nixon indicates that Brendan Rodgers is keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles with a view to a potential summer move.

Nixon indicates that Liverpool representatives, including top scout Dave Fallows, were present for Forest’s FA Cup tie at Preston North End recently as the young 20-year-old centre back continues to impress.

Lascelles was on the scoresheet yesterday for the Billy Davies’ side and it seems likely that he’ll be playing in the Premier League soon.

Interestingly enough for punters in the tavern, Nixon explains that Merseyside rivals Everton tried to land the defender in 2010 but it ended with the Merseyside club in hot water with the FA.

The Toffees, under David Moyes, were fined £45,000 by the FA and were warned about their future conduct after making an unauthorised approach for Lascelles.

Lascelles has been offered a new contract at the City Ground but he continues to attract attention from Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and previous suitors Everton are thought to hold an interest in the strong defender but Liverpool are thought to be leading the race with a £3 million bid prepared for the summer months.
