Liverpool: Xherdan Shaqiri joins injury list

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Xherdan Shaqiri is the latest name to pick up an injury for Liverpool.

Shaqiri injured

The Reds were without a number of players against Leicester, including the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. That still didn’t stop from picking up an impressive 3-0 victory though.

However, Naby Keita was forced off with a hamstring problem, and after the match, Klopp confirmed Shaqiri had picked up an issue on international duty. He said:

“How I know it, Shaq had a little muscle injury with the national team which he didn’t really realise and then he trained with us.

“We gave him a day off then he came back and was involved in a session, but it was not fully involved, he just did a little bit.

“After that he felt a little bit and then we made a scan and they found out it was an injury from five or six days ago.

“Nobody knew about that, not even Shaq knew about that. That’s how things sometimes are.

“So he was not able to be involved.”

Another blow for the Reds

Liverpool’s injury list was already bad enough before this weekend, and now there are two more names to add to the treatment room. Switzerland international Shaqiri may not be one of the first names on the teamsheet at Anfield, but at the moment Klopp could do with as many bodies as possible.

Before the turn of the year, Liverpool have ten more fixtures, starting with Atalanta on Wednesday in the Champions League. Klopp will be hoping to see some of these injury issues disappear as soon as possible.

In other news, Liverpool’s pursuit of this superstar may have hit an obstacle.
