According to the Sunday People, PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman has emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish apparently sent his assistant Steve Clarke and Coach Kevin Keen to watch the 21 year-old in action for Holland in their friendly against Germany last week.
But Liverpool will face a fight to land the talented Dutchman, as he has also been attracting the interest of several clubs across Europe, including Manchester City, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Moving clubs is something that has become all too familiar for Strootman already this year, he moved from Sparta Rotterdam to FC Utrecht in January, but he was there for less than six months as he moved onto PSV Eindhoven in June.
PSV paid a combined total of €13 million for the double signing of Strootman and his team-mate Dries Mertens, but with some of Europe’s top clubs circling, PSV know they may not be able to hold onto their talented midfielder for as long as they would like.
Strootman has also managed to force his way into the Dutch national set-up this year, winning 10 caps and scoring his first and only goal for his country against Finland in September.
Liverpool spent around £40 million on midfielders in the summer, recruiting Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, but despite this they are still looking to add Kevin Strootman to further bolster what is already a strong midfield, which also includes captain Steven Gerrard and Lucas.
Manchester City have been heavily linked with a move for the Dutch international in recent weeks and Liverpool know that it will be very difficult to compete with the financial muscle of City, if they are to land the midfielder.
