There remains a bitter taste in the mouths of Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern following the fiasco surrounding the potential move of Virgil van Dijk to Merseyside, but the Reds should remain positive as pre-season approaches.
It will have been a significant blow to manager Jurgen Klopp and he will deem that a set-back in his transfer plans across the coming months as he was hoping to reinforce his rather fragile defence with Premier League additions.
Supporters by the bar don’t think the attack needs altering in any shape or form whatsoever before the 2017/18 top-flight season gets underway, however, that is where they are wrong.
Winger Sadio Mane has been largely missed through injury, where ‘coincidentally’ Liverpool’s form staggeringly dropped off, and that could have cost them a spot in the Champions League if they didn’t obtain talent in other areas of the field – so he is certainly one player who needs a back-up to him.

Manolo Gabbiadini
The Italian attacker found form hard to come by in the latter stages of last season for Southampton following missing three matches due to a groin injury, but is back amongst the goals having netted the final strike in his national team’s 5-0 victory over Liechtenstein.
Manolo Gabbiadini has even admitted to enjoying life in the Premier League and there is a clear reason for that having rippled the net on four occasions since arriving in this country back in January.
Our Liverpool-mad punters have suggested that the 25-year-old will fit perfectly into the Reds’ philosophy, although the scenario of Virgil van Dijk may scupper any transfer dealings between them and the Saints.
Fernando Llorente
Liverpool will be in serious trouble if they happen to sell Daniel Sturridge in this transfer window, which could become a reality after having a brief look at his injury record in recent campaigns.

We’ve been discussing here in the Football Transfer Tavern what would happen if the Spaniard did decide to opt for a switch to Anfield. With the European nights returning, the Reds need strength in depth in all areas of the pitch and Llorente is a reliable second centre-forward to have.
