Liverpool fans are hit with more encouraging news in the Football Transfer Tavern as talkSPORT explained how the agent of Paris Saint-Germain star Ezequiel Lavezzi has played down talk of a move to Napoli.
This is good news for the Reds who will be looking to shake up their strikeforce who struggled earlier on this season.
They have been linked with the Argentine international for some time now but their chance of landing Lavezzi looked slim after he hinted at rejoining former club Napoli.
The 29-year-old said he would love to team up with fellow international forward Gonzalo Higuain but his agent has said that a deal is not set in stone yet, giving Liverpool renewed confidence.
Although he is now approaching 30 years, Lavezzi would provide experience and he will be familiar with the heavy expectation that comes with playing at a big club such as Liverpool.
His agent, Alejandro Mazzoni, has looked to keep his client’s choices open as he played down the chances of a move to Napoli.
“Lavezzi has said nothing new,” said Mazzoni.
“He always said that if he had the opportunity to return to Italy, Napoli would be his first choice. But we must see if Napoli are interested or not.
“I also want to make it clear that we are not trying to get him to leave PSG at all costs.
“Lavezzi has expressed his thoughts, he likes Italy and especially Napoli, and if he returns to Italy, the city where he spent several years would obviously be his priority. But that does not depend just on him.
“Much depends on the will of [Napoli] president [Aurelio] De Laurentiis. Lavezzi is a professional and in football, weddings always need two participants.”
