Luton Town: With the League One table changing fast, the Hatters can’t afford anymore slip ups

Luton Town - James Collins

If there was any time for Luton to slip up in the league, last night was the game they needed to do it in.

A 93rd minute Steve Seddon equaliser for AFC Wimbledon delayed Mick Harford’s promotion plans for another week as the Hatters now sit a precarious three points ahead of second place Barnsley, with Portsmouth potentially capable of capping up with Luton should they win their game in hand which would take Pompey to two points behind the League One leaders.

A situation like this seemed unlikely a few weeks ago when Luton were at one point eight points clear of Barnsley and looking likely to wrap up promotion and the League One title with a few games to spare, but just like most things in the division, it hasn’t been so simple.

Teams have chopped and changed multiple positions over the Easter fixtures, and with two games remaining in the season, Luton simply can’t afford any more hiccups if they are to claim a historic second successive promotion.

Throwing away a 2-1 lead to a team fighting for survival will damage the mentality and belief of the players in the Luton dressing room, and if the team can overcome this psychological barrier in their now must-win game against Burton Albion next weekend, they will have one foot in the door for the Championship.

Luton have been the best team in the division all season, now they must end the campaign as with a champion mentality and get six points from six.

Luton fans, can the Hatters win their remaining two league games? Let us know!
