‘Make him captain’, ‘Fingers crossed’ - Arsenal fans urge club to make contract move after Wenger update

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to the club’s update that Arsene Wenger wants Jack Wilshere to stay at the club. Arsenal’s official Twitter account tweeted a link to the Arsenal website, where Wenger has given his latest update on English central-midfielder, Jack Wilshere’s contract negotiations.

Wilshere’s return to fitness has been of the few positives that the Arsenal fans propping our bar up can take from this season, as the 26-year-old has been one of a small number of players who look like they belong in an Arsenal shirt. However, as things stand Wilshere is set to become a free agent in the summer with the club being unable to come to an agreement with him to sign an extension to his contract.

If he can stay fit, Wilshere has been tipped to be apart of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad to travel to Russia in June. Considering his expected inclusion, Wilshere will want to put his current contract discussions to bed early so he can get back to focusing on his career with both Arsenal and England. In the short-term, Wilshere will need to be on top of his game to help Arsene Wenger’s side advance past AC Milan in the Europa League in tomorrow’s clash at The Emirates.
