The Gunners have an action-packed pre-season in store, which includes two fixtures against their London rivals Chelsea. Wenger will face Conte’s side as a part of the International Champions Cup in Shanghai and also in the Community Shield in August.

In addition to these exciting games, Arsenal will face Benfica and Sevilla in the Emirates Cup at the end of July, while also facing Bayern Munich in the ICC. To kick off their tour, the Gunners are in Sydney where goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Per Mertersacker earned a first win of the new season.

This is widely perceived as an opportunity for Arsenal’s fringe players to express themselves and demonstrate their significance to Arsene Wenger ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Jack Wilshere

Having returned to the Gunners from a loan spell at Bournemouth, one could argue that Jack Wilshere faces the most important pre-season of his Arsenal career. The 25-year-old completed his first full season for three years, following persistent troubles with an injury during his time in North London. Arsenal’s acquisition of Granit Xhaka last season has provided Wilshere with even more competition as he looks to revive his Arsenal career.

To ensure that he’s able to resurrect his career in the red and white colours of Arsenal, he must impress on their pre-season tour, or else he risks being discarded permanently by manager Arsene Wenger.

Alex Iwobi

Another Arsenal player who is the subject of considerable pressure is 21-year-old Alex Iwobi. The Nigerian had an impressive season for the Gunners last year, amassing 38 appearances, scoring four and providing three assists. While many Arsenal and Nigeria supporters will be hoping that the youngster can continue his progression, it is rumoured that Arsenal is looking to recruit in Iwobi’s position.

Riyad Mahrez and Thomas Lemar have frequently been linked with moves to Arsenal; their arrival would significantly damage Iwobi’s prospects of regularly featuring in Arsenal’s first-team. Moreover, the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette will likely shift Sanchez back to the wing, which could further restrict Iwobi’s involvement. For the sake of his Arsenal career, Iwobi must impress this Summer or face being forgotten about altogether.
