The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to wonder if their side will ever be beaten this season.
Pep Guardiola has led his City side to one of the finest openings to a campaign the English top-flight has ever seen. The records continue to tumble along with City’s despairing opponents who simply cannot find a way to prevent the Mancunian machine from carving them open at will. Our regular Citizens lining up the bar have been lost in dreamland watching their team at times this year, but they are refusing to get carried away with their blistering start to the season.
The punters are concerned that the January transfer window could prove to derail their season if there is any truth behind the rumours emerging in DonBalon, which link their recently acclaimed club top-goalscorer, namely Sergio Aguero, with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
But the City faithful should have no fear regarding Aguero’s future who will have no desire to leave the club until he wishes to return to Argentina.
Since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus in January, the British media have sought to unsettle City’s talisman by stating that he was no longer the club’s crown jewel or even the first-choice striker.
He has responded to these reports by scoring 28 goals in all competitions in 2017 to become the club’s all-time top-goalscorer – hardly the strike-rate of a man who wants out.
Aguero has been an integral part of the transformation at City in recent years and he has stuck with the club through a transition period which has seen them rise to become one of the biggest players in European football.
And there is one final thing that Aguero needs to achieve before he can happily walk away from the club.
The achievement eluded to is, of course, the Champions League, and considering the progress City have made this year, you wouldn’t bet against them winning Europe’s most prestigious club competition next May.
Until Aguero has inspired City to lift first ever European Cup, there is no way he will be seeking a move elsewhere.
