With their turbulent season finally at an end, Manchester United fans can finally climb over the sofa and look forward to a summer of rebuilding under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Red Devils are likely to be in the market for a number of players as they bid to rejuvenate their squad, and the man everyone seems to want, is Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, who is valued at £63 million (by Transfermarkt).
According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), the Dutchman hasn’t yet accepted Barcelona’s offer, and that the Catalan giants are remaining unwilling to meet the defender’s new demands. Those developments have meant the likes of United, Bayern Munich and Juventus remain in the running to sign the world’s hottest prospect, and that news has only served to liven up Red Devils supporters on social media.
Taking to Twitter, many fans of the Old Trafford side expressed their hope that De Ligt could be plying his trade in the red half of Manchester next season, and felt that the club’s financial power could be a major factor in where the centre-back ends up.
Indeed, some were so impressed by the 19-year-old’s rise this season, that they felt only Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk was better than him at the moment, and implored United to get the deal done.
