Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are cursing their luck after hearing the latest transfer news, which indicates a major stumbling block has been placed in the way of their pursuit of a top summer target.
Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann currently sits top of Jose Mourinho’s summer wish-list, with Manchester United’s need to bolster their forward lines increased by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long-term injury lay-off and the likely exit of Wayne Rooney this summer.
However, The Times states Atletico are ready to pull out all the stops to keep French international Griezmann at the club- as they consider a new deal for the striker that would make him the club’s highest earner.
A club source indicated that a new deal for Griezmann would raise his release-clause beyond the €100m mark, whilst the striker could earn as much as €12m-a-year- which would see the French striker paid more than Diego Simeone.
However, Manchester United would be able to offer a similar deal to the Frenchman if he moved to the Premier League this summer and our landlord still believes the Red Devils will land his services.
Will Griezmann be a Manchester United player next season? Let us know in the comments below!
