The Football Transfer Tavern was left in complete shock last night when the London Evening Standard exclusively broke news that Manchester United have launched a stunning bid for Barcelona ace Cesc Fabregas.
The paper understands that United under new manager David Moyes have attempted to lure the former Arsenal man back to England after making contact with the new La Liga champions and they suggest that the 26-year-old midfielder would welcome a return to England.
Fabregas departed the Emirates Stadium in a £35 million move just two years ago but he has struggled to make a real impact at the club he so loves. Barca still owe the Gunners £5 million from the initial transfer and reports indicate that he could be available for just £20 million this summer.
It has been reported that Arsenal have the first option on the Spain international if he decides to leave the Camp Nou but United are desperate to secure Fabregas as a statement of intent for their future after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson with a possible reunion for Cristiano Ronaldo also on the agenda.
A succcesful outcome in this transfer pursuit would be a huge coup for the new manager as he seeks a even stronger United side next season.
