Manchester City ace to reject Spaniards?

aguero.jpgManchester City fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern have breathed a heavy sigh of relief after reports from David McDonell of the Daily Mirror revealed star striker Sergio Aguero is set to snub the efforts of Real Madrid to sign him.

City chief executive Ferran Soriano has moved to quickly pour cold water on the rumours, and has insisted the Argentine will not be following Roberto Mancini out of the City exit doors.

“I can be really clear on this one,” said Soriano. “He’s not leaving. This has gone on and on and on.

“We’ve had discussions with Sergio and his agent about several things and he has never expressed the willingness to go.

“We have never had an offer and even if we had an offer we would say ‘no’.

“We want to keep a squad of more or less the same size, 22 or 24. New players will come and some of our players will go.”

Aguero failed to match the heights of last season at City, with injuries taking their toll. The Argentine endured a stop and start season, and only just managed double figures in terms of goals over the course of the campaign.

Soriano revealed the weight would be lifted from Aguero’s shoulders next season, insisting the club would be bringing in major reinforcements.

When asked if the club were close to reaching an agreement for their top targets, he replied: “Yes we are.

“The way we want to work is identify the positions we want to improve, identify the candidates and then work on that.”
