Manchester City look to sign Sevilla midfielder

Ever BanegaPunters in the Transfer Tavern are excited by the prospect of Manchester City raiding their Champions League rivals for the addition of an excellent midfielder.

According to Marca, 27-year old Ever Banega impressed City boss Manuel Pellegrini during his side’s recent tie against his City side in the Champions League, despite Sevilla suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Blues.

The Argentine, who has previously plied his trade at Boca Juniors, Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Newell’s Old Boys, was named man of the match in last season’s Europa League final.

It is rumoured that City manager is looking to recruit a more dynamic central midfielder, with the likes of Yaya Toure, Fernandinho and Fernando providing a more physical presence.

City’s season so far has been plagued with injuries throughout the team, including a long-term injury to summer signing and midfielder Fabian Delph, who picked up an injury just 18 minutes into his first game for the club.

Although they do remain at the top of the Premier League table, City would certainly benefit from another midfield option – especially with aforementioned players like Yaya Toure and Fernandinho ageing.

Marca’s report also states that Pellegrini is concerned about a lack of creativity when David Silva is absent, as the burden often falls to Yaya Toure, who is not getting any younger.

Banega’s box-to-box nature, athleticism and energy would certainly be a boost in the City camp.

Should Banega swap the Spanish outfit for the Etihad, he would no doubt integrate well, with several other fellow Argentine compatriots already at City, including Willy Caballero, Pablo Zabaleta, Nicolas Otamendi, Martin Demichelis and Sergio Agüero.
