Amidst the drama of Sir Alex Ferguson announcing his impending retirement this morning, one major story has almost slipped under the net. Nevertheless, punters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been left captivated with news reported by Mirror Football that Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney has told team-mates he wants to sign for Bayern Munich this summer.
It is understood that the German champions are preparing a mega £30 million offer to add the England international to their already formidable strikeforce and it is thought that Rooney is flattered to be linked to such a high profile side who will have Barca legend Pep Guardiola in charge next season.
While the 27-year-old is known to have grown tired of life at United, the Bavarians’ incoming Spanish manager has outlined Rooney as one of the players he wants to bring to the Allianz Arena to put his mark on the Champions League finalists.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain were believed to be heading the chase to lure Rooney away from Old Trafford but now he could end up playing in Germany next season after United decided that he was a sellable asset following the arrival of the brilliant Robin van Persie from Arsenal last summer.
Will Rooney follow Guardiola and Gotze into Bayern Munich? Rate this rumour below.
