Metro have our punters smiling here in the Football Transfer Tavern after we hear that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been playing it coy with the media when speaking about Gareth Bale.

The £120 million-rated Welsh international forward has now been linked with a switch back to England once again and with United reportedly getting the green light to sign him come the summer, the rumour mill is going into overdrive.

One person that is not getting carried away however is United boss Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman was certainly playing his hand close to his chest when talking about Bale and told the press: “I cannot discuss that [Bale] with you,

“I only discuss with my CEO, not the media.”

As our punters note, given the performance of Ed Woodward in the past, we think that United fans might actually be better at trying to get Bale to come to Old Trafford. They have access to a plane and a banner after all!
