Manchester United eye move for £11m-rated ex-Juventus defender

KjaerManchester United fans in Football Transfer Tavern are drawing up a potential defensive line up for next season as the Daily Express revealed that they are planning an £11 million move for Lille defender Simon Kjaer.

Kjaer, 26, is an experienced defender having played for Juventus, Monaco and Zenit St Petersburg in the past.

The Danish defender would be brought in to strengthen Louis van Gaal’s defence, which has come under heavy scrutiny this season.

If this move does materialise, it would make the him the most expensive player Danish player of all time, eclipsing Christian Eriksen’s move to Spurs in 2013.

Kjaer would be a much cheaper alternative to other target such as Mats Hummels, but if van Gaal can manage to buy them both, then it would be great business by the Dutchman.

Kjaer has previously admitted to being a Liverpool fan but that would not get in the way of a move to another big club.

He said: “I’ll only leave if a top club wants me, this season or next.

“Otherwise there is no reason to leave a club of Lille’s means.

“If I do leave, stability will be important. The clubs who want me will need to show that they intend to rely on me in the long term.

“I have a status in Lille. The club believes in me and my family feels good here.

“I realised that I needed a coach who has confidence in me and listens to what I say. It is important to have a coach who understands you.

“That was not the case at Wolfsburg and that’s why I didn’t stay there.”
