Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hit with the familiar news that they will not be able to purchase one of their targets, after the Express revealed that Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has ended their hopes of signing Marquinhos.
United’s hopes of landing the 20-year-old were high as he struggles to get a significant amount of game time as he plays second fiddle to the partnership of David Luiz and Thiago Silva.
But the French boss has ruled out a move, forcing Louis van Gaal to look elsewhere, as the United boss is coming under increasing pressure to sign a solid centre half.
And Blanc hopes that as plans of a new contract are getting drawn up, it will slowly squash any remaining speculation.
Blanc said: “Marquinhos has a spirit and a special mentality.
“We have done everything to keep him and we will do everything possible to extend his contract.
“It is good that as a player he can operate in different defensive roles, and let’s not forget he is just 20 years old. He and Adrien Rabiot represent the future of PSG.”
