Talk is rife in the Football Transfer Tavern that Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is soon to depart the club after the arrival of David Moyes as manager. And today The Sun brings about more speculation over the 27-year-old striker by suggesting that United have eyed Real Madrid ace Karim Benzema as a possible replacement.
The paper reports that United want about £25 million for the England international and then they will use the cash to fund a move for French striker Benzema. The 25-year-old forward has been watched by the Old Trafford club this season with a view to a possible transfer and former manager Sir Alex Ferguson previously tried to sign him at Lyon before Real outbid the English side.
Punters in the tavern can still see this working with Rooney heading to either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich and United signing the excellent Benzema as a straight replacement.
Rooney is reported to have asked the club for a transfer after becoming frustrated with his position in the side and given his troubled relationship with Moyes that could spell the end of his time in Manchester.
