When Odion Ighalo heads back to China after his loan move expires at the end of January in 2021, Manchester United will be without a substitute striker.
The attackers they currently have are Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James, Jesse Lingard, and the first three, who all start, are the only ones who can play at centre-forward.
Therefore, their need for an out-and-out striker who can come off of the bench is evident and former United attacker Louis Saha believes that the club should be looking at Edinson Cavani.
“I’ve followed him for many years and I’m gutted there doesn’t seem to be an interest there. For me, Cavani would be the best fit this summer. Cavani has a great eye for goal and his leadership would be a great asset. He has qualities that are very difficult to find on the transfer market.”
Cavani has left Paris Saint-Germain and is now available on a free transfer and his record at a very high level highlights why it is very hard to disagree with Saha.
The £18m-valued forward has played 556 games in total of PSG, Napoli and Palermo, and has scored 341 goals whilst also picking up 65 assists, per Transfermarkt. He has also won 23 trophies for those clubs, as well as the Copa America with Uruguay.
This is a great record and shows how good a career he has had and, even at the age of 33, he showed last season that he can still be a potent attacking threat, as he managed seven goals and three assists in 22 appearances, per Transfermarkt.
His winning mentality and eye for goal could see him as an ideal option that the Red Devils can have on their bench and it should definitely make their squad stronger for next season – if they make a move for him.
