Manchester United in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking smug after Metro revealed that they are set to submit a bid in before Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The Reds have been linked with the Argentine for the last couple of transfer windows, but now they risk losing him to the Red Devils.
The closest Liverpool came to securing his services was last summer, after the World Cup, and they also approached him in January.
But they risk losing the 29-year-old to their arch-rivals as Manchester United prepare a deal.
It is unknown how much Louis van Gaal will offer for him but it would be a real statement of intent, if they signed him up swiftly after their first bid.
A number punters in the Tavern are speculating that they may even consider a swap deal for Angel Di Maria, which would really blow Liverpool out of the water.
