Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are sick and tired of being toyed by their targets as the Manchester Evening News revealed that Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has denied promising to join United.
Reports yesterday claimed that the German international promised to Sir Alex Ferguson that he would join the Red Devils.
It was suggested that Hummels met with their former boss when Sir Alex was scouting former United player Shinji Kagawa.
But the 26-year-old was quick to end these elaborate claims, which puts another nail in the coffin for United fans, who still had hopes of signing him.
“To clarify it: this supposed ‘promise’ is simply fictitious… and that’s the friendly phrase,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
United fans, who have been teased with the prospect of signing Hummels, will now have to look elsewhere as they look to strengthen their defence.
Louis van Gaal would have really fancied his chances of signing the experienced defender following their dire season in the Bundesliga!
