“Massive plus for Toon army” – Newcastle fans react to unexpected Chelsea return

Championship fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t touched their expertly poured ales for the last hour, as they’re too busy reacting to news that Bristol City striker Tammy Abraham has returned to parent club Chelsea due to an injury.

The 19-year-old has been nothing short of sensational since moving Ashton Gate at the start of the campaign, going on to bag 18 goals in 30 Championship appearances – putting him third in the division’s scoring charts.

But the in-form teenager has suffered a thigh injury and manager Lee Johnson has now confirmed he’s return to west London for treatment. He’s expected to be out of action for two to three weeks.

Abraham’s injury has come at a pivotal point in the Championship season; Bristol currently find themselves just two points and one place above the relegation zone, with Abraham’s goals keeping them afloat for much of the campaign.

Naturally, Bristol City fans in the Transfer Tavern and on Twitter are concerned…

But supporters of Fulham, who watched their side receive a Premier League masterclass from Tottenham Hotspur in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup last weekend, appear to be feeling quietly confident now that Abraham has been ruled out of the Cottagers’ trip to Bristol City on Wednesday night…

Newcastle fans, meanwhile, are nothing short of delighted. The pace-setting Magpies host Bristol City on Saturday and Abraham’s absence has seemingly evened the scores, with their own top scorer Dwight Gayle also a potential absence after hobbling off against Aston Villa last night…
