Mauricio Pellegrino must sign 1 of these 2 players to replace Jay Rodriguez at Saints

New Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino is determined his Saints side does not face the summer raid of previous years, with the Saints fans here in the Tavern unsure how next season will pan out.

Southampton have made a track record of nurturing and developing young talent into world beaters, before having their best players hooked by bigger clubs – particularly Liverpool.

Virgil Van Dijk, although successful with Celtic, has come on leaps and bounds since arriving on the south-coast two years ago.

The Dutchman appears to be next on a long list of Southampton players to be recruited by one of the Premier League’s elite.

However, Pellegrino will surely be determined to keep hold of the centre-half and strengthen his squad.

The Argentine recently allowed Jay Rodriguez to leave in a move to West Bromwich Albion – with the injury hit striker ready to reignite his career.

Down at the Transfer Tavern, we’ve found TWO players who could each replace the Englishman for the Saints…

Gylfi Sigurdsson

The Swansea midfielder carried his side last season, finding the net nine times and assisting his teammates 13 in the league.

Sigurdsson has proved that he is far to good to be battling for survival.

The Saints will have to challenge Everton for the Iceland international’s signature, as Ronald Koeman’s side have similar aspirations of recruiting a player who can help them breach the top six.

Michail Antonio

The Englishman’s goals were invaluable for West Ham last season.

Antonio provided 9 goals for the Hammers, most of which came with his head.

His blistering pace to get in behind and pin-point crossing could be just what the club need for Charlie Austin to rekindle what was an excellent goal scoring run.

However, Southampton would have to break the bank for the 27-year-old’s signature.

Antonio recently signed as four-year deal with the Hammers.
