French club Monaco have taken to Twitter to deny reports that Transfer Tavern brought to you earlier this week that the club may have to sell star man Radamel Falcao this summer, as reported by the Express.
The story emerged last week that principality club were being investigated for tax-related issues from this summer and the French authorities alongside UEFA could smack the club with a whopping £72million fine.
Monaco is known as a tax haven and Falcao is the highest paid player in the world after ‘tax’ currently and so would not be happy with a move away from the big spending Ligue 1 side just months after joining.
Manchester City and Chelsea are both monitoring the situation in the south of France and could make a cheeky bid for the talented Colombian if Monaco are punished for their role in the summer tax avoidance.
Monaco can attract the big name players with the money as footballers are some of the worst hit employees when it comes to tax, mainly because they are paid so much in the first place.
“The advantage is huge in being able to convince huge players like Falcao to move to the club.” French journalist Cyrille Haddouche said.
“So the tax advantage that Monaco is considered as unfair [by the clubs], especially in a period of economic difficulties for all clubs except Paris Saint-Germain.”
The unfair advantage is caused a storm in French football but the club have taken to social media to rule out the possible sale of the striker that they only signed this summer.
“The club categorically deny rumours about a sale of Falcao,” Monaco confirmed on Twitter.
“As a reminder, the Colombian attacker has signed with ASMFC for five years.”
