Nacho Novo has told Alfredo Morelos to stay at Rangers

There is no doubt that Rangers’ number one priority in the summer should be to keep Alfredo Morelos at the club beyond the transfer window. The Colombian has been lethal for the Light Blues in his two years in Glasgow and has been a key player for Steven Gerrard’s side this season, whilst also earning himself a status as something of a cult hero for the Ibrox faithful.

His performances, though, have attracted plenty of unwanted interest with a number of high-profile clubs across Europe allegedly keen on him, however, one of the Scottish Premiership’s fan favourites has told him to remain in Glasgow.

What’s the News?

Speaking to The Herald Scotland, Nacho Novo has revealed that he has told Morelos, who is a close friend of his, to stay at the club for a couple more years and believes it would be the best thing for him.

“I told Alfredo it was better to stay here and play for a couple of years more,” he said. “In his first year, he was here and scoring. The next season was going to be tougher because players would know him. But he is still young, and he will always have opportunities to move somewhere else.

“He made his name with Rangers, including with the Colombia national team. So, he is going in the right direction. Hopefully, we can keep him. He likes it here, he does. He loves it. He is here with his wife, which really helps. He also has a very good friend in Danny Candeias. They are a good group together.”

The Verdict:

Morelos has been extremely important to Rangers this season and the club must do all they can to resist any offers that may come in for him in the summer as the £2.7million-rated star (Transfermarkt) has registered 29 goals across all competitions so far.

The Light Blues will know that they are not under any pressure to sell him after they managed to tie him down to a new contract recently, although that is unlikely to stop any interest in the player from mounting.

Fans will be hoping that Novo can be a massive influence on the 22-year-old and will hope his comments will be taken on board by the South American as the former player will know what it means to be at Ibrox.

However, a move to a club that are playing Champions League football could be something that Morelos could find difficult to turn down should the offer to do so arrive in the summer and that could test Steven Gerrard and Rangers’ resolve.
