Arsenal supporters in the Transfer Tavern were somewhat disappointed at their transfer window.
Our resident Gunners fans were hopeful that this summer would denote a period of significant and sustained squad improvement, a summer in which the club would invest heavily into the team to ensure that they retain their status as a Champions League team.
The summer began with great cause for optimism, the club-record arrival of Alexandre Lacazette was accompanied with the shrewd addition of Sead Kolasinac. It looked as if the club’s promises of squad investment were going to materialise.
However, as the deadline has passed these are the only players that Arsenal has signed during the transfer window, adding to the negativity and frustration that is currently associated with the club.
The Gunners have endured a difficult start to the season, with many wondering what is their best eleven?
Here is our landlord’s attempt…
GK: Petr Cech
Cech has amassed considerable experience in his career, and he’s won every available major honour.
He’s much better than any other goalkeeper the club has, too.
CB: Shkodran Mustafi
The German endured a difficult first season with the Gunners, yet he’ll be hopeful of impressing during his second term as an Arsenal player.
He’s certainly better than a lot of what the club has.
CB: Nacho Monreal
Wenger’s decision to convert Monreal to centre-back has seemingly worked, he plays with maturity and composure.

Xhaka endured an indifferent first season at Arsenal; he’ll be hoping to make more of a significant impression during his second year.

The Spaniard is highly regarded for his terrific dribbling and passing ability but has gone off the boil in recent seasons.
He needs to get back to that level he was at a few years ago where he was becoming a top drawer player.

Without question, Arsenal’s best player. The Chilean scored 30 goals in all competitions last season.
Is he going to perform this season? Time will only tell but Arsenal fans will be hopeful he does.

The Frenchman has been signed to provide the Gunners with plenty of goals; he scored 37 last season.
The record-signing, he is already off the mark this season and will need to keep firing to keep Arsenal in the title hunt.

Despite the criticism he receives, Ozil is of undeniable significance to the Gunners.
He may not always turn up in big games but he still has class in those boots and it’s going to be up to him if he can prove the critics wrong this season.
