The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern would be over the moon if their club could pull off the signing of Mateo Kovacic. The young Croatian midfielder has reportedly had a transfer request turned down by Florentino Perez, according to Cadena COPE. The young midfielder wants to move on this summer and Spurs have held a long-term interest in signing him.

If Tottenham could complete the signing of Kovacic their midfield would have perfect balance. At the moment the Lilywhites have the likes of Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier in defensive midfield and Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in attacking midfield, however, with Mousa Dembele set to leave the club and Harry Winks suffering from injury, Kovacic would be the perfect man to link the club’s midfield and create some balance.
Tottenham would do well to prise the 24-year-old midfielder from Los Blancos, as the club still see him as an important player for the future. At the moment, Real Madrid’s strongest midfield consists of Casemiro, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Isco, although with an ageing Modric, Kovacic could be set to take over from his experienced countryman for both club and country.
