Newcastle fans on Twitter slate Dubravka for Vokes’ goal

Whilst the three points went to the away side last night, it was far from a perfect performance from Newcastle United on the road. The Magpies took a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes and then had their lead halved just before half-time by a superb Sam Vokes header. However, The Geordies weren’t best pleased with Martin Dubravka’s efforts in keeping the Burnley frontman’s effort out.

It’s hard to pinpoint any real errors that Dubravka has made in his Newcastle days. Even his loan spell last season, the Slovakian ‘keeper was solid and helped the side solidify themselves at the back on their way to an impressive 10th placed finish. Naturally, the fans were delighted when he was snapped up on a permanent deal over the summer, although they were far from delighted with him last night, as his awful positioning allowed Burnley a way back.

If Rafa Benitez’s side had gone into the break 2-0 up then Burnley would have had it all to do. As it happened, The Magpies managed to stay solid and saw out the game for a 2-1 win, but it would have been a lot less nervy if Dubravka had been in the right place for Vokes’ goal. The shot-stopper was too far off of his line, leaving Burnley’s Welsh striker with the option to loop his header over Dubravka, an option that the 61-cap international took as he grabbed his third goal of the season.
