Lutz Pfannenstiel, the new sporting director of MLS expansion side St. Louis City SC, has revealed that he turned down offers from both Newcastle United and Inter Milan, according to Transfermarkt US.
As per the outlet, Pfannenstiel will become the first sporting director of St. Louis, as well as the first sporting director in the MLS to directly join a club in the American league from one of Europe’s top four divisions.

Indeed, he was previously the director of sport for German outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf, having worked as the head of international relations and scouting for them before.
By working in this role, his claim to fame is that he discovered Liverpool ace Roberto Firmino, who played for Hoffenheim in Germany before completing his switch to the Premier League.
Pfannenstiel would have been talking to the Magpies amid talk of a possible takeover at St. James’ Park, as a new group called Bellagraph Nova (BN), which was co-founded by businesswoman Evangeline Shen as well as Singaporean cousins Terence and Nelson Loh, have emerged as potential candidates to succeed Mike Ashley in the northeast.
Indeed, they have already apparently offered Newcastle legend Alan Shearer a role as the new manager of the Magpies, or indeed any other role he wants, if their £280m bid is successful.

Nevertheless, it seems as if the club’s hunt for a sporting director may go on as Pfannenstiel is no longer available, as the whole takeover saga continues to gather pace.
