The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been looking at their goalkeeping options this summer, with Roma’s Alisson Bekker and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak linked with a Merseyside switch. However, it could come about that the Reds next ‘keeper is right under their noses. Nick Pope has been linked with a move from Turf Moor, despite the Reds reluctance to bring the youngster in.
The Burnley shot-stopper has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season with the Clarets, helping his side to secure themselves a place in the Europa League, despite the bookies tipping them to go down. Pope conceded just 35 goals in 35 games and kept 12 clean sheets in the process, however, he’s not thought of in the same category as Alisson or Oblak and it would be seen as a major downgrade if he was to be signed over the pair.
The only benefit of signing Pope over the club’s other two targets is that he would cost considerably less to bring to the club. The rumours around the Burnley man suggest that the fee would be around £15 million which is only a fraction of the £80 million figure that has been thrown around if the club wanted to sign either of their other two targets.

I think if Klopp has failed to bring Allison & Oblak, he should save that £15m which is flashing on Nick Pope the Burnley goalkeeper.
Karius and Mignolet are better. #LFC— Rahman (@africanrahman) June 10, 2018
Yeah ive read that too. Pope's not bad but going from Oblak and Alisson to Pope would be awful

When I heard fekir, alisson/oblak and dembele, I thought treble wasn't just a dream. But pope? Cillessen? Shaqiri?. I guess we just praying for another TOP four finish and hopefully a domestic cup.

Ya still talking? That’s how I heard it’s no longer Allison or Oblak but Pope from Burnley ?! Jokers

The fans can be rightfully annoyed at the Nick Pope links, but only because they were so convinced at the fact they were signing Alisson or Oblak that it’s understandable to see their frustration at the links to Burnley’s stopper, despite Pope’s obvious ability.
