Now is the time for Celtic to lure this £2.7m-rated Premier League legend to Scotland

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see who Brendan Rodgers will bring to the club with the transfer window officially open.

The former Liverpool boss landed his first signing of the summer last week when he completed a £9m deal to sign Odsonne Edouard permanently from Paris St Germain. If Celtic are to compete in Europe, more signings need to be made. They were knocked out of both the Champions League and Europa League last season.

While no one can compete with the Hoops in the league, Europe is a different story. Celtic’s squad is vastly inexperienced on the European stage which needs to be addressed in the summer window. A quality addition with Champions League experience will be crucial to success in the next campaign.

Craig Gordon and Dorus de Vries are both approaching the end of their careers, so Rodgers may be in the market for a new goalkeeper. The perfect signing could be Arsenal veteran – Petr Cech. Valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, the former Czech Republic captain is unlikely to stay at Arsenal following the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

The former Chelsea stopper made 34 appearances in the Premier League last season, keeping 11 clean sheets. Despite his performances slowly declining, Cech remains a top ‘keeper who would be a massive hit in the Scottish Premiership. A natural leader, the 36-year-old would be a calming presence at the back.

A veteran of both the Premier League and Champions League, his vast experience could prove invaluable to Rodgers on his quest for European glory.
