According to the Daily Record Barry Ferguson is in a transfer tug of war between Newcastle and Sunderland , both clubs hold the Scottish anchorman in high regard.
Barry has experienced the highs and lows in recent times winning the Carling Cup with Birmingham and their victory over Arsenal must be up there with the best of them. Then to suffer the agony of relegation on the final day of the season must have been devastating. Although with both teams waiting to make their move Barry could now be offered the chance to return to the Premier League with either of these two well respected clubs.
Barry is now in the twilight of his career and would bring much needed stability to either of these sides. The player himself would be the first to tell you his legs are not as mobile as they once were, but his ability to sit deep read and control the game is up there with the very best.
Barry’s vision and ability to hold onto the ball and pick out a pass plus rarely lose possession is a trait that isn’t easy to come by, and this would be an excellent addition to a club desperate to avoid that relegation battle next season. The former Rangers captain has played at the very top level and has a host of experience after years of Champions League football which has saw him learn lessons from some of the best in the game.
With Pardew and Bruce both keen on the player this could be another rivalry that wont die quietly.
