Chelsea should go through with the deal they proposed to midfielder N’Golo Kante in the summer and get him to commit his future at the club, sooner rather than later.
According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are confident they’ll reach an agreement with the Frenchman soon after suggesting a new five-year deal, estimated to be £290,000-a-week, in July.
The new deal would be £140,000-a-week more than the current deal he signed at Stamford Bridge in 2016 when he joined the Blues from Leicester City. But with the contract set to expire in 2021, the Chelsea board are looking to keep him at the club for a bit longer after proving to be of high value since his transfer.
Kante has become one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League and even the world after winning back-to-back league titles with Leicester and Chelsea, before achieving the ultimate prize in July when he won the FIFA World Cup with France.
The 27-year-old has however been operating in a more attacking role since new manager Maurizio Sarri took over from Antonio Conte in the summer. The Italian manager has been opting for new addition Jorginho in the centre of his midfield to hold the defence with Kante given more freedom to go up on the pitch.
But with the new system in full flow and Sarri getting good results for it so far, Chelsea would need Kante to be part of the long-term future if the club was to achieve famous heights again under the new regime.
The former Leicester man’s versatility and ability to adapt in pressure situations have made him one of a kind midfielder. Apart from that has his work rate and determination to play from box to box also been impressive and will it be no surprise if Chelsea receive offers from other top European clubs for Kante.
The report suggests that Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are firm admirers of Kante but the Blues are however convinced he’ll remain at the club and are not ready to let him go of him.
