The Arsenal fans were feeling relieved in the Transfer Tavern last night after the club officially confirmed that Alexis Sanchez has joined Manchester United in a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Months of speculation finally came to a decisive conclusion last night as Sanchez finally departed North-London and made a sensational move to Manchester United. Although the Gunners propping up our bar in the tavern were disappointed to see their crown jewel depart the club, they believe that they have completed a shrew piece of business by bringing Mkhitaryan to the club in return – especially considering that Sanchez could have left the club on a free transfer in the summer.
Mkhitaryan arrived at Manchester United with a massive reputation after scoring 23 goals and providing 32 assists in all-competitions for Borussia Dortmund during the season which preceded his move to Old Trafford, but he has failed to live up to expectation during his career in the Premier League so far.
The Armenian ace now has the opportunity to resurrect his career at The Emirates Stadium in a new environment which may be more suited to his style of play.
Mesut Ozil’s contract is also set to expire in the summer of 2018, and his refusal to commit to his future so far has provoked concern amongst the Arsenal supporters who are looking forward to seeing their German international link up with Mkhitaryan.
There are plenty of supporters on Twitter who are calling for Ozil to extend his contract at the club to prevent United from pinching another one of their star player’s by the end of the season.
