The Tottenham Hotspur fans were absolutely ecstatic in the Transfer Tavern last night after watching their side record a huge result in the first-leg of their Champions League tie in Turin.
It looked like Tottenham’s last-sixteen tie against Juventus could run away from them in the early stages of the match last night, as they found themselves 2-0 down with barely even 10 minutes on the clock at the Allianz Stadium. However, the Lilywhites recovered valiantly and deservedly clawed themselves back into the tie courtesy of goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.
Tottenham dominated possession and looked comfortable receiving the ball in tight areas against a side who are so precisely organised and tactically astute in their approach to recovering the ball, so the travelling side deserve great credit for the quality of their performance against The Old Lady.
In the aftermath of proceedings, the likes of Moussa Dembele and Christian Eriksen were deservedly hailed by fans and pundits alike, but the performance of Pochettino’s surprise first-team inclusion, namely Erik Lamela certainly didn’t go unnoticed by the supporters.
Lamela (valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt) was boosted to the first-team on his return to Italy last night in place of Heung-Min Son, and the Argentine fully justified his selection with a tenacious performance on the right-hand side of Tottenham’s midfield.
Lamela’s has consistently divided opinion amongst the Spurs supporters in years gone by, but the vast majority were delighted with his contribution last night and they took to Twitter to express their delight at his performance.
Here’s what the Tottenham fans on Twitter had to say about Lamela in the aftermath of proceedings last night…
Some of these ratings are a little harsh. Lamela was underrated but brilliant on the night and fully justified his selection ahead of Son. Sanchez and Davies deserve a little higher and they grew into the game #COYS

It’s the kind of player everyone wants in their team. With his constant pressing and chasing the ball he makes life difficult for defenders.

Superb performance from Lamela tonight. Shows for the ball every single time, always an option.

Such a brave player!! Never hides, always willing to try something. It’s why I think Poch loves him, for his bravery on the ball. #coys

I really can't understand these haters. Makes me wonder if they even WATCH the matches. Lamela could find a cure for cancer and they'd still hate him #Ridiculous

Some of Lamela’s first time passing is exquisite. Having a very tidy game tonight. His spite levels are high too, which I’m enjoying.
