Tottenham supporters were left drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern on Tuesday night after seeing their side go down 2-1 to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, thus slumping to a fourth domestic defeat in their last eight matches.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with the Foxes off the back of an unconvincing 1-1 draw at home to West Brom last weekend, yet they were unable to get back to winning ways in the Midlands. First half goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez set Claude Puel’s side on their way to a crucial three points, and although striker Harry Kane got one back for Spurs 11 minutes from time, they were unable to net the all important second to prevent a fourth Premier League defeat of the season.
Consequently, there have been many deflated Spurs supporters in the Tavern in the last few hours, and their mood is unlikely to be improved by a recent report from The London Evening Standard, which outlines some intriguing comments from Watford chief executive Scott Duxbury regarding the future of star man Richarlison.
The 20-year-old only made the move to Vicarage Road over the summer but has seamlessly adapted to life in English football, having netted five goals and laid on four assists in just 14 Premier League appearances for Marco Silva’s side.
And his fine form has reportedly attracted the interest of Tottenham in the last few weeks, but Hornets chief executive Duxbury has struck a blow in Pochettino’s transfer plans by insisting that Richarlison is not for sale.
He said: ‘We want Richarlison to be here for many more seasons.
‘We are building a very competitive squad, we have no need to sell.’
And these comments are likely to frustrate our resident Spurs fans, who have seen their side struggle on the field in recent times, and look set to be disappointed in the transfer window as well.
