Rumours are buzzing around The Transfer Tavern that Portsmouth are set to bring an experienced French striker to the Premier League club from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
Hacks from L’Equipe newspaper are convinced OL front man Frédéric Piquionne “could shortly” join Pompey at Fratton Park.
Bernard Lacombe, the special adviser to Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas, said yesterday that the ex-Saint-Etienne star had been in contact with clubs in England and Spain.
According to “L’Equipe sources”, Pompey and the deposed Ligue 1 champions are negotiating a loan move with the option of a permanent transfer.
Lacombe says the deal for Piquionne to move to the Premiership could be completed in the next three days.
