West Ham have been rather inconsistent in recent times as they often follow up a positive result with a negative one. Although, one positive for Manuel Pellegrini is the fact that Javier Hernandez grabbed a brace last time out, as goals haven’t exactly been a regular thing for the Mexican.
The Hammers will be desperate to work their way into a European place from here on until the end of the season as they could attract some big names in the summer if they manage to do so.
Although, it appears as if Manuel Pellegrini already has a potential summer target in his sights, as according to Claret & Hugh, West Ham United have a big interest in Guillermo Maripan.
It’s safe to say that Pellegrini could with bringing in some extra quality at the heart of the defence, so here are the potential consequences of signing the defender…
DAVID GOLD AND DAVID SULLIVAN SECURES DIOP PARTNER
There’s not many things West Ham United supporters love more than seeing the likes of David Gold and David Sullivan spend big on additions in transfer windows. The likes of Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop have already established themselves as fan favourites, so it just goes to show that splashing the cash pays off.
Interestingly, the Alaves defender is likely to be available for £10m-£12m (as per Claret & Hugh), so Gold and Sullivan will have to get their wallets out to bring the impressive defender to the London Stadium.
Issa Diop has been hugely impressive in the current campaign but the Hammers are yet to really find the perfect partner for the Frenchman, as Angelo Ogbonna hasn’t always been able to ensure consistency and Fabian Balbuena has fallen out of favour since returning from injury, so Maripan could be the man to step in alongside him.
FABIAN BALBUENA FEARFUL
Fabian Balbuena was one of the standout performers for the Hammers during the first half of the season, but he suffered an injury which has cost him his place since returning to the side.
And, another defender joining the club may just make the South American fearful as he would find himself even further down the pecking order, with the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop regularly getting the nod.
