After a hectic end to an otherwise slow summer window, the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited to see just how much Mauricio Pochettino has improved his lot.
Indeed, the likes of Davison Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente have all arrived in north London to help round out a squad who have challenged for the title over the last two seasons.
Still, as excited as our local Lillywhites are to see the new faces in action, reports from the London Evening Standard have proven rather frustrating.
Firstly, Aurier is ‘unlikely’ to feature for Spurs against Everton this weekend as he’s only just returned to England after international duty with the Ivory Coast. Sanchez, another player able to operate at right-back, also only returned to these shores yesterday after playing for Colombia.
Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier has spent a week trying to recover from his ankle injury, leaving Kyle Walker-Peters on standby ahead of tomorrow’s game up at Goodison Park.
While the 20-year-old certainly impressed during his first-team debut against Newcastle United, our north London locals are fairly frustrated about the fact they may have to field the teen, in an area usually boasting so much strength.
Landlord’s Verdict:
Walker-Peters looked more than assured for Spurs in his debut, though potentially having to rely on him again defeats the whole object of signing Sanchez and Aurier.
Everton away is a very tough game and, while the teen is obviously full of talent, missing key members of the squad has only added to the early season frustration.
