Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are amused as the Daily Telegraph revealed that another Southampton player is pushing a move to White Hart Lane, this time it’s Toby Alderweireld, not Morgan Schneiderlin.
Unlike Schneiderlin, Alderweireld’s desire to join Spurs is not due to Mauricio Pochettino but because he wants to hook up with former Ajax and Belgium teammate Jan Vertonghen.
It is becoming quite comical on the south coast because despite their rise to the top of the table, their stars are still looking to move on.
It was expected that Pochettino would raid Saints as soon as he got the opportunity.
But now that he has got the ball rolling at White Hart Lane and him and his side are beginning to gain confidence, it looks as though he has moved on from the past.
Alderweireld may be an exception though, because he has been a stand out performer for Saints this season and he knows Vertonghen very well and it could lead to a formidable partnership.
“I would like to play with Jan Vertonghen again,” said Alderweireld. “But a transfer will be arranged later, not now. Atlético will decide my future, but I would like to stay in the Premier League. That some of the big clubs show interest proves I’m doing well.”
