In this instalment of our Transfer Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Chelsea recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.
Juventus eye Willian on free
Reports from Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) suggest that Juventus are keeping tabs on Willian’s situation at Chelsea, with the Italian giants seeking a potential free transfer for the winger – and are monitoring developments regarding any new contract for the Brazilian at Stamford Bridge, with his current deal expiring in the summer.
Willian recently revealed he was very happy at Chelsea and still holds ambitions of winning trophies at Stamford Bridge– though that does not mean club officials will necessarily see things the same way.
With no new deal forthcoming in the summer just passed, perhaps Juventus will be hoping Willian continues to fire blanks as they seek his signature on the cheap.
Elseid Hysaj signs new Napoli deal
The Daily Express reports that Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj has been dealt a blow with the Albanian closing in on a new contract at the Italian club.
Napoli are thought to be keen on offering Hysaj a new deal, leaving Frank Lampard to seek alternative targets despite the club reportedly having chased the right-back for 18 months.
This may not be such a bitter blow to Chelsea, with captain Cesar Azpilicueta clearly the current first-choice right-back. And with the likes of Reece James and the loaned-out Davide Zappacosta still with potential futures at the club, perhaps spending money on a possible backup in Hysaj would not be so worthwhile.
Fikayo Tomori in talks over contract extension
Chelsea are said to be working on extending the contract of defender Fikayo Tomori, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, who recently posted a tweet suggesting an agreement could be in place in the coming weeks.
Tomori certainly has a bright future – showcasing his ability is not limited to just defending by scoring during Chelsea’s 5-2 success over Wolves.
And having worked under Frank Lampard for a year at Derby County last season, it would not be a great surprise if he was to sign on and continue his exciting development under the Blues legend at Stamford Bridge.
