A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting to James Pearce's suggestion that Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will both remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

The Reds have had a season to forget, with injuries halting their progress and damaging their hopes of retaining the Premier League title. Centre-back has been the main area where Liverpool have been hit, but Jurgen Klopp's attacking players have also struggled to consistently fire as a unit.

It has been the Reds' midfield which has been the least of Klopp's worries, with plenty of options to call upon, whether it be Gini Wijnaldum, Thiago, Fabinho or Jordan Henderson, even if the latter pair have played in defence at times.

Two players who have been less trustworthy are Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the pair continuing to be injury-prone during their time at Anfield, also flattering to deceive whenever they have played - the Guinean's 40th-minute withdrawal in Madrid last week was a case in point.

Despite this, The Athletic's Pearce claimed that the pair won't be sold in the summer, due to their 'attitude and application'.

Liverpool fans unhappy with Pearce's update

These Liverpool supporters took to Twitter to bemoan the update, with many feeling it is time for them to leave due to the perceived lack of value they bring to the Reds.

"Ox needs to be sold imo but yeah...Klopp doesn't give up early. That is a good thing but also a bad thing..."

"There is such a thing as too long. They become a drain on the club and the team. Can’t be relied on when it matters most. Soft is the word"

"God no. Training is not match football"

"What's the point of having them if they are never available? Matip, Keita, and Ox have been paid for years, but never able to stay fit. That's what I call a liability to the squad"

"They both need to be moved on in the summer"
