Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he could start all four of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota against Real Madrid.
Liverpool face one of their biggest games of the season on Tuesday night, with the Reds facing Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg in Spain.
Klopp’s men have found some form after a wretched spell, winning 3-0 at Arsenal last weekend, as well as picking up recent victories against the likes of RB Leipzig and Wolves.
Liverpool’s injury woes have eased a little of late, too, and Jota’s return has been particularly huge, with the Portuguese scoring twice at the Emirates on Saturday.
Klopp hints at major selection decision
Klopp now has to choose who makes up his front three away to Madrid, with Firmino arguably the most likely to make way if Jota plays.
Speaking to reporters in his pre-match press conference [via This Is Anfield], however, the Liverpool boss failed to rule out the possibility of starting all of the quartet:
“You have to wait (to see). It looked good (vs. Arsenal). It looked good in first half vs. Man City also. There will be a moment we try it, is it tomorrow? We will see.”
Transfer Tavern take
It would be a surprise if all four started, given how attacking it would make Liverpool against top-class opponents, but they did look dangerous together in the second half at Arsenal.
Jota’s form means he merits a start, although Klopp’s faith in Salah, Mane and Firmino as a unit means the 24-year-old could have to settle for a cameo role again.
In other news, an ex-England international has talked up the idea of Liverpool signing a world superstar this summer. Find out who it is here.
