Liverpool have been tipped to sign two centre-backs this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to eradicate the team's defensive issues.

The Reds have suffered rotten luck in the centre-back department this season, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip all ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

It has left youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams having to be drafted in, while Ozan Kabak has arrived on loan from Schalke.

Liverpool tipped to make double signing

According to the Sunday World, Klopp will address the situation by bringing in two central defenders this summer, with the manager reportedly outlining some key criteria in identifying potential targets.

One will be an experienced head who is viewed as a replacement for the injury-prone Matip, while another younger alternative will also come in. Kabak is mentioned as possibly being the latter.

Transfer Tavern take

If this report true, the strategy makes perfect sense, with Liverpool badly in need of more reliable options at the back.

Matip is an excellent player when fit, but his constant injury problems are becoming increasingly troublesome and it is hard to rely on him regularly.

Kabak's recent form suggests he should be signed permanently, too, having found his feet after a tricky start at Anfield.
