Kyle Walker-Peters, Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse stood out in Southampton’s 2-0 win at home to Norwich City in the Premier League.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side hosted the struggling Canaries on Friday night, battling their way to a deserved victory in the process.
Che Adams gave Saints the lead before half-time and the three points were sealed late on by Romeu, who thundered a late finish past Angus Gunn to move his side into ninth place in the table.
We’ve looked at statistical experts Sofascore to analyse who were Southampton’s three best performers at St Mary’s (of those to have played at least 45 minutes), delving into the numbers to outline their crucial roles in the victory.
Kyle Walker-Peters – 8.1
Walker-Peters is enjoying another strong season for Southampton and he was superb on Friday night.
The right-back made two tackles and one interception against Dean Smith’s relegation-threatened outfit, along with winning 10 out of 13 duels (77%) and completing 44 of his 53 passes (83%). He also also completed six out of his eight dribbles, offering plenty of attacking threat for the hosts.
Should Southampton sign Spence?
Yes, terrific player
No, bigger priorities
Oriol Romeu – 8.1
Romeu may have caught the eye with his stunning goal but his all-round performance was equally impressive.
The Spaniard enjoyed a 90% pass accuracy, completing 65 out of 72, and he also delivered an impressive six out of seven long balls, highlighting his quality in possession. Eight duels won out of 10 (80%)was an impressive return, too.
James Ward-Prowse – 8.3
It was Ward-Prowse who earned the highest rating of anyone on the night, as the captain continues to stand out as arguably Saints’ most important player.
The 27-year-old played three key passes overall, with his creative brilliance again on show, and his 92% pass completion rate (60/65) was even better than Romeu’s.
Ward-Prowse also made two tackles and interceptions apiece and won both of his duels, showing that he was a dominant presence off the ball as well as in possession.
In other news, one Southampton player could stay beyond the summer. Find out who it is here.
